garage sailing - Churay Churay!!

i often go garage sale-ing. i find alot of good stuff, and it's also how i get alot of my new music these days...

group : Nanda Manachi
album : Churay, Churay !!
pub date : 1982 (in France)
format: analog tape
sold for : 50 cents

this is one of my best recent music finds, the whole album is really fun. The title says it all, as far as I could piece together with my web searching Churay Churay means to 'dance with force without stopping'...in other words, party harty!

i couldn't find much about these guys besides that they are a group of indigenous musicians from the Andes region that play traditional music of the indigenous peoples of South and Central America. I can't understand a word, but on a lot of the songs it sounds like they are trash talking in between versus and the occasional yip and howl. From what i can hear, the instrumentation on the album is comprised of at least two guitars, flutes, something that sounds like a harmonica, drums, and some sort of fiddle.

it's great stuff...
the track that is playing now has a drone of harmonica and flute while fireworks whistle and firecrackers pop in the background.
ah!
now i hear laughter and hoots as the guitars start up and the singers start in.
Churay Churay!!

Hmm, left leg still works. Right leg still works. I think, J, you are lacking as a physician. Work on your diagnoses.

Tsk, what a bunch of killjoys. Enjoy your churay music, J. (Just, you know, quietly with headphones so no one else can hear ; )
