kick it!

yay

SOCCER!

what a great excuse for adults to run around and get sweaty outside.

all world cup hype aside, it just wouldn't feel like summer without soccer.

the first time i played soccer outside of phys-ed class was probably when i was 6 or so. but i wasn't every very good. doing sports is hell when you're young and don't have the knack or confidence for it.

then i started organizing soccer in the summer around 4 years ago once i was working in that genetics lab. it is a big research centre so i recruited from the building and got a fair number of people out. i remember one year attendance peaked for an early soccer session at 24 or so...
it was a crowded field...
but then a girl got a ball in the face that resulted in blood and stitches...
after that the numbers dropped off a bit...

ah but it's fun, as long as there are no macho twits that throw hissy fits on the field...
i've tolerated a few of those over the years...but i have zero tolerance for that these days.

this summer i've got people coming out on Saturdays at 3pm.
last week was the best turn out yet, with 14 people.

that's a good number...any more than that and the field gets too crowded.

it's fun

and i'm no good at it

but i don't care!

You doom shall be swift and silent - like the owl.

Is that doom like an owl attacking a mouse? Or an owl being blindsided by a high-flying soccer ball?

Can't talk. Day off.

I hope it rains owls, mice and soccer balls upon your day off.

Such a nice, long, restful day off.

So anyways, it is doom like an owl attacking a mouse. I assume. I suspect that an owl being blindsided by a high-flying soccer ball wouldn't be that silent, what with the bam, squawk, thud that would be part of it. Depending on who kicked the soccer ball, it might not be swift, either.
