brrrrring! yup yup yup

last thursday i lost my cell phone.
it wasn’t one of those flip-out pieces of tinfoil. it was a sturdy one-piece with good size buttons and a built in flashlight. very handy.
but i took it out of my pocket when i had lunch on a grassy patch across from the skytrain station downtown, and then i forgot about it until around 4 hours later and i was packing up in the office and getting ready to go home.
no phone
i called it
couldn’t hear any ringing
i rushed out to the grassy patch
nothing
i called the phone from a pay phone and went over to the trash can and listened encase i threw it out with my lunch wrappings.
nope
it’s gone without a trace...
i checked the phone records for last week too, and no one used it...so...i can’t trace it that way.
now i have to get a new phone, and most of them are those silly tiny tinfoil flip out things with digital cameras and all that junk. there is one from the same company that built the old one...that looks ok to me...but it doesn’t have a flashlight and the battery life is shorter...which makes no sense...isn’t technology suppose to make things better instead of worse?

I think you're doing a great job with the blog, Jeff, congrats!
As for cellphones, i would settle for the cheapest one that had a ringtone that didn't suck. Apparently it is too much to ask.

got it!
it's a flip out piece of tin...but that's all they had...
has a camera on it too!
but, then again they all did...
When I shop for a cellphone I look for these things:
- must cost less than $40 (I don't care if it's ugly)
- pre-paid service (best way so as not to use it much)
- as few features as possible (more features means more wasted time)
- needs to be good for SMS
I want to make calls and answer my phone when it's convenient for me. Cellphone use is so completley out of control.
I spend less than $100/year on my phone. And my cellphone works pretty much anywhere in Europe.
When Apple comes out with a killer cellphone I'll consider spending more.

Aww, Sesame Street alien flashback...!
My circa 2001 cell phone has about $170 in prepaid credit on it due to my non-enthusiastic use of same. Though if I'm only going to carry it around as some sort of paperweight, a tin foil version one would at least be lighter.
Oooh, even better - one of those plastic ones filled with candy...

I have a cell phone. Somewhere. I have no idea where the charger for it would be. And I don't care.
