summer wedding

my friend Kourosh got married on saturday.

it was up at Capilano golf and country club; very exclusive, lots of pictures of rich white men on the walls. but a beautiful place, and good for a lively Persian wedding.

i was Kourosh’s only white friend there, and while hanging around with my big pentax slung on my shoulder, people come up to me and asking if I was the photographer.

‘no i’m a friend of Kourosh’s from school’, i would reply

then they would get embarrassed…as would i…

the wedding ceremony itself was very simple in accordance to Baha’i traditions. it was performed outside on a large patio. a select few got to sit close to the bride and groom, the rest of use stood and craned our necks, still very nice though.

everyone looked very elegant, beautiful and happy.

i love weddings.

after the ceremony were Persian cakes and cookies and then an amazing buffet that was catered by the country club. i ate too much, as to be expected.

of course during the dinner was the standard ‘make them kiss’ game; the rules for this one is that you have to sing something about love. i wanted to go up and croon away on all of me, but i couldn’t compete with whole sections of the room launching into Persian songs that would get everyone clapping and shouting.

they would also put people on the spot to perform during dinner for additional entertainment. One guy did an impersonation of Enrique Iglesias that was very funny. another did an amazing impromptu belly dancing routine that got the bride up and dancing too.

dancing was key.

ladies taunted Kourosh with the cake knife while they did the shake and shimmy. A breakdancing crew even showed up after the cake to break it on down, which just primed everybody up for dancing. the young guys in particular would go nuts. lots of group circling and mobbing going on with shouts and arms up lifting the bride and groom on chairs around the room.

i love weddings.

Glad you had a good time.

On a completely unrealted note:

"Indeed, Mr. Gore has endlessly promoted his environmental documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" since its release in May. But a spoof of the film -- titled "Al Gore's Penguin Army" -- is now featured on YouTube.com, a popular Internet video site. The Wall Street Journal yesterday reported that the video was produced by the DCI Group, a District-based ad agency that works for Mobil Exxon Corp. The spoof is one of several already posted."

Lovely.
