new tunes

whoa!
i'm boppin my head to some new stuff that my Toronto/Winnipeg connection just linked my way.
peter bjorn and john
i love knowing women that know more about new music than me...
today i journeyed out to Burnaby for an interview for the cystic fibrosis/gene therapy article i'm working on.
when i get out of my usual stomping grounds it always feels like i'm going on a little adventure...and i like that. it's fun to go somewhere new to interview and meet someone. i like that part of being a journalist...
i am also constantly amazed at how easy it is to get around using transit...or maybe i always assume that getting there will be more difficult and longer than it actually is. that's probably it...
of course it helps that my interview was close to one of the skytrain lines...
in other news...
HEFE has a myspace page, just like practically every other band now...
so check out some of the pre-mastered tracks we got up from our soon to be released album, 'grande'.
but not everything is happy in vancouver rock land...
The Marine Club is no more
it was one of my favorite vancouver venues and bars. i would always tell people to go check it out...i'm sure the place hadn't changed much since the 50's.
there was no farewell or warning at all. BC Hydro owns the building and is going to bulldoze it soon. one less venue for live music in this city...
i was upset when i first heard...thought it was a bad joke... but it's no joke. i hope they don't build more condos there...
everything is turning into condos... once the transformation is complete there's going to be lots of condos and a whole lot of nothing to do...

You're righter than right, Helm. Peter Bjorn and John are the shit. Young Folks is the sound of skipping rope in the backyard or some kind of epic summer bike ride. What greatness for such a slushy day.

Bring on the condos.....Pack the people in tight and charge some fees, make some cash and get out before the 'leaky' condo syndrome of the lower mainland takes over....
Ah yes, that is the good life.....I don't know where the untrained monkey fits in....

Yo...here's a recipe for y'all. When I was eating this last night I knew that Helm would have enjoyed this. Before the end of this year dude, we'll hang out one way or another:
pumpkin-feta pie
800g pumpkin cutted in 2cm blocks
4 pieces garlic unpealed
2 little red onions in thin half rings
1 spoon balsamicovinegar
1 spoon dark brown sugar
100g feta
1 spoon rosemary
1 roll crumb paste
put pumpkin and unpealed carlic in a plate in the oven (25-30min).
let cool down
put onions in a pan and bake 10min, add sugar and vinegar, and carmelise for 15min. let cool down.
add feta, onions and rosemary to the pumpkin, squeeze the garlic and mix everything together. + salt & pepper
put on the crumb paste - put in oven for 30min
bonne appeĢtit

Go see Pan's Labrynth. Now.
It's even better than the reviews would suggest (and given every one I've seen has been about how it's an amazing movie, that's saying something).
